Winter engine refresh

I've been living with oil leaks for years now, the oil pan gasket was in two pieces so I decided to pull the motor and do it right. While I had the motor out I also wanted to check the ring gap since this car was not boosted from the factory. I've been pushing 15 lbs of boost for years now but I wanted to up the pressure a little. I also did my first honing job and wanted to really clean up the cylinder head gasket surface. Bought a granite block and glued some sanding sheets to it to clean up the heads.

Instead of buying the granite block, wouldn't it be easier/about the same cost to have a shop surface them?

I'm not sure what they would charge, I didn't even check. The granite block was $70 which I'm sure will be used again. It did a really nice job and I didn't have to leave the house.
