95 monte carlo...to turbo or not to turbo...

my cuzin has a 95 monte carlo(not z34) and has the money to make it his sleeper...two options currently being tossed around are turbocharger or swap in a fwd northstar v8 w/ trans

the engine is bone stock w/ 70k miles...so would a turbo require an engine rebuild with forged internals and be more of a hassle than its worth? would buyin da fwd caddy motor and dumpin it in be easier? lets hear some ideas!

not only would the northstar be easier, it will end up cheaper, as well.

thats what i was thinking...btw that would be so ****ing cool...300-something horsepower to a stock looking 95 monte...heh what a sleeper :D

a turbo would not require an engine rebuild and it woudl cost waaayyyy less than a nortstar swap.
70k is young for any modern engine. since that motor is only like 9.2:1(from memory, could be wrong), you could easily stuff 8psi into it and have it happily hummin along for another 70k no problem.
all you gotta do is size your turbo properly and fab up some exhaust. NBD
the only thing you woudl have to take care of that is of any real level of difficulty would be reprogramming the computer, and that is not terribly difficult either.

Gm Series II S/C 3800. They even sell complete conversion kits for it.

DONT DO NORTHSTAR. they are not designed to be abused...lol i know from experience. I had a 95 STS,(best e/t 13.82) and after shattered shifter solenoids, rotting out freeze-out plugs, electrical nightmares, oil consumption, and corroded cooling system, i had enough.

IMO...i agree with the 3800 series supercharged swap. should fit very easily and those motors haul ass and are easily modded.

BUT if you have the cash and wanna get really crazy.,... find a northstar trans(or similar) and a grand nat/t-type/tta 3.8l turbo engine and drop that in.... now THAT would be cool.
