nope, it was my nonexistant wiring skills. i tried to hook up a manual fan switch, i thought the switch was grounded and it wasn't. my car died at an intersection today, i had to get it towed to a shop. i'm 99.9% sure i shorted out the alternator. it needs to be replaced.

oh, and matt....thanks for jumping the car. i made it work ok (although i was about 2 hours late). i appreciate it man.
