F**k You DMV!
I failed inspection :?
As soon as my mom rolled up to the inspection station (with the windows down) they rolled them up, tugged on the corner of the tint, and slapped a failed sticker on it. Bastards are delaying my exhaust install. Now I have to pull this **** off, get it re-inspected. But when I get it back Im going to do even BLACKER tint on the car. They wouldnt even accept that the car was born & raised in Long Island, and was tinted there, I have a copy of the original NY title. |
Not DMV anymore. Its the MVC (motor vehicle commission). That's what Jersey does with problem departments. They rename them and hope that the problems go away. Apparently they've only increased.
|
Bring it to a private garage and pay the ~$50 to get it done. I will eventually get my '88 SS inspected that way. It was also born on LI and a NY car until I bought it, and has really light smoke tint on all the windows.

Re: Fuck You DMV!
I just was responding to suggest that you rename your post becuase being a PG-13 Lounge board the post really sticks out with a title saying F*** You, but it does suck about the inspection and your tint.

*sigh* They fail you for tinted windows, but they give licenses to terrorists. way to go, Jersey!

i never understood why when peopel fail cause they have **** on their car that they know is illegal that it is somehow blamed on DMV. how does this work? you try to cheat and they catch you, how do they become the ******** in this situation?

Tim, the car came like that when I bought it.
I had no clue what the legal limit is, or what I currently have. So it is the DMV's fault for not letting it go, when I have proof it was done in Long Island, a state where it was legal. |
so the previous owner put tint on that is illegal in new jersey and they are supposed to let it go? sorry, but that logic escapes me.
to get a car inspected in any state it has to meet teh requirements of that state, not the state it lived in previously. later tim |

it's easy to get pissed off at the cop who is arresting you for drunk driving when you are .11 and the legal limit is .10 (yet, you didn't know the limit in NJ, so he should've let you go for only being one point over), it's easy to get pissed off at the judge who slaps you with a $500 fine for driving without an inspection sticker, it's easy to get pissed off at the guy in the inspection station because he won't pass your car (for whatever reason) - hell, i get pissed off a lot, too, for a myriad of reasons, but i usually think about it and realize that i was the ******* and that they had every right to enforce the law. and sometimes i even think about it before i go posting it on a message board... sometimes. ;) the laws are really there to protect the people (at large, or so we hope), not to inconvenience you. and now i'm just an ******* for pointing all of this **** out. thanks for the opening, tim. |
I agree with everybody... wait, that isn't possible, duh!
I get pissed when they fail me for the little stupid stuff. Major stuff like no cat or failing the equivalent (OBD II scan) is YOUR fault. But having no torque converter "inspection cover" seems a bit extream. My brakes were bad... okay, I can accept that when they showed me the proof (not that I needed any). How about duct tape "holding front end on".... is there a law for having bumper stickers on a car? Isn't a bumper sticker just tape with letters? Then the failed brake pedal pad missing  . I don't exactly wear high heels and if you saw my car you'd know that NOBODY else drives her! That was really just a PITA. I'm going to remove it when I get the passed sticker and ask them to through it away for me. Just a heads up, inspection is now commision based. They get paid to fail cars, it sucks. Seriously though, it is my fault for not keeping it completely stock but damn these guys are hard asses. |
Unless you went to a private place, you were gunna get nailed for the tint.
You can be upset, but dont blame it on the DMV/MVC. One of the guys I work with had to peel off the tint on his new Tbird before it went to inpection, and they still failed him even though there was no tint. I can see if they failed you for having something dangling from your rear view mirror, or some sticker on your hatch and getting upset, but not in this case. |

When did this go into effect? They could fail sooooooooooo many more cars now. If you have the incorrect speed or load raiting tires, you can fail as well. If you see the kinda crap I do on a daily basis, you will start seeing more and more red tags on peoples cars. |
one of my cars failed for its gas cap once. lol ya thats right it failed for its gas cap. i thought it was stupid but i went to the parts store got the gas cap for $2 got rid of the orignal one put the new one on and then i passed. it was stupid that it failed for that but o well **** happens. whats worse is the next day i totaled the car so it went to the junkyard with a brand new inspection sticker wonder what licky sob found and stole that.
|
2 of my cars failed the new inspection...my truck(before modding) brakes & my wifes 99 accent for brakes as well...i did nothing to either car, brought it back through the line and passed...now thats a **** dmv charge.
|
or how bout the 02 camry they put through as the first car through inspection...brand new & it failed

While I do agree with the statement, that if it's illegal in NJ, it doesn't matter where the car came from, I can also say that it is possible to be subjected to dumb crap from the DMV, MVC, or whatever they wish to be called. In the past I have been subject to some ridiculous fails myself, and a few arguments. The best one, was over the 'Factory' tint that is embedded in the glass on my T/A. With the Louver on the back window, and the Limo tint on the back window, it makes everything else look darker. So, one year, when I still went to the State pre-paid inspection (and no it isn't free), the guy had me roll the Driver's side window up and down several times before he finally decided that I hadn't tinted it myself. And yes, he did question whether or not the tint that was there, was Factory or not.

Eh Call me ignorant, but I still think its dumb. My mom roleld the windows down, to sneak bye, and they rolled the windows up, and I failed. But the good news is I passed everything else.
Its just a pain that the car was just inspected in Long Island, not even a month ago, and I go to the NJ DMV, and they fail me for it. Its just a hastle to take that **** off, and re do it. For gods sake, my friend had a locking rear brake when you used the E-brake, it failed inspection the first time just for that, and the guy told him to unlock it and come back, and they passed him Whats more dangerous? A locking rear brake? Or a little tint? (im going to take it off, but its just going to go back on even darker, my town doesnt hastle you for it if your not doing anything wrong) |

before you go and waste your time applying tint or paying someone to do it, check into getting laminated glass - like ben was saying - that has the tint in between two panels of glass. the safety glass that has been mandated on all cars since the '70s has a thin plastic membrane in between the two panels of glass, so that if the window breaks it doesn't shatter all over the place. they just make the plastic membrane a little darker than normal, and you can claim it was done at the factory. the best test if a razor blade (carry one!) that you pass over both sides of the glass to prove that you didn't apply tint to the windows.
i do not know how legal it would be, but a cop would have a hard time writing you a ticket for something you can't remove. and, as far as inspections go, if they fail you then just swap in the original glass (yes, you're going to need it at some point so keep it safe) to pass inspection and put the tinted ones back in when you get home with your new inspection sticker... of course, if you do decide to follow my advice (which i have already stated that i don't know if it'd be legal or not) you're on your own. don't try to drag me into court to help explain to the judge what you did... |
