!AC & install that front kmember and you'll be able to put a 2x4 under the front tire :) nice launch

Tru2Chevy 12-29-2004 08:56 AM

Nice shot!

Yea, the k-member and the a-arms will pull a lot of weight off the front of the car (40ish lbs, right Craig?).

Little G 12-29-2004 10:30 AM

K-member, A-arms - 42lbs
AC delete - 35lbs
Battery relocation - 35lbs

Fastbird 12-29-2004 01:51 PM

Does your car (LittleG) have a stock looking Z28 style exhaust?? Do you ever race at Atco?? I seem to remember talking to a guy there once who I ended up racing, and thought the car was a Z28 until talked to said person after the race.

Get some headers and a lightweight single 3" exhaust :) . Then with the belt off for the track you'd be sure to run better times than me with my v8.

he races there alot, but hes got the stock v6 catback but no cat basically...just the heavy stock muffler & tubing. I agree with jon get a nice 3" short system and loose another 30lbs.

NJSPEEDER 12-29-2004 03:30 PM

he has a 3inch magnaflow system waiting to go on. we also have evrything we need to put together a much improved y-pipe for him(well, everything except the time needed to get it done...lol) there are also a few other little tricks that will be taken care of before opening day. :) after that we still need to work out a few things in the tune.

hehe, always nice to know there is more in the car :)

He needs headers plain and simple. The weight reduction is a no brainer when you're power limited but to ignore a bolt-on like headers is just beyond my scope of logical comprehension. DO IT, just do it, do it... in my best Maury Finkle (from Starsky & Hutch) impression. If you get me a stock manifold to model then get a couple flanges made up, order some piping with bends and for under $300 have some custom made headers and y-pipe. I think wasting time on just a y-pipe isn't going to help much. Not compared to doing the whole thing in one sitting. I've made custom headers in very tight places that were equal length and side exit... your setup would be a SINCH to do. Especially with all that room you've got to work in. Even if you had to take a piece of flat stock and drill/grind away a flange it wouldn't take nearly as long as you think. Just get some gaskets from GM to get the pattern and some stock, trace, drill, cut, and grind :) .
I know I'm pushing this hardcore but I think what you're doing is awesome. I just want to see it as fast as it can be and headers are SO important even on an relavitely new engine like yours.

Little G 12-29-2004 06:19 PM

Just pick out what I've got to order and I'll write the check, Jon.

making good pipes has been considered, it is certainly easy enough to do. it is a time factor more than anything. a y-pipe will take a few hours to get done right and will lend a noticable gain because teh factory one is a complete POS.
once that is done it will be easy to adapt to a set of fabbed headers if someone ever gets a beater so we can really go nuts.

definitely cool seeing a 6cyl that can beat a handful of v-8's and most imports...if you can see 12's with that id prolly be amazed....or faster with a turbo setup or supercharger, was a 6 cylinder s-10 around here with a cam, different bottom end, head and intake work...and it was in the 13s which was cool and definitely different...or look at baddest305...was in the low 11s with a 305...

Fasterthanyou 12-30-2004 06:40 PM

I was looking at emachineshop.com and they're prices are crazy overpriced. I was looking at getting your flanges waterjet cut and they wanted nearly $200 for the pair! So I think getting a gasket and flat stock is the best bet. You can do this now without any car down-time. Pick a primary size, I'd go 1 3/4" since you need to remove 220+hp worth of air. Remember v8's have 2 extra cylinders and usually smaller exhaust ports than your v6 so the primary size isn't black and white. Once you've decided which primary size, use the gasket to find the holes, drill and you MIGHT be able to get a hole saw to last through 6 mild steel cuts. The key is using the correct cutting oil and stopping to clean up the hole. Then Summit sells u and j-bends that we can cut and weld. The only tricky part is going to be making the collector but I've got a design that we've used in our 4 cyl headers that doesn't require anything fancy, just a grinder.
Tim, do you have a chop saw? How much does one cost... they're SO useful for doing this kind of work.
For all the tools/parts I've come up with $160 to do everything including the y-pipe. That price is if we use band clamps on the y-pipe and no flanges. If you want the ball flanges it'll be more and then the price for a chop-saw....
Still, you can make those flanges now so get too it :) .

ehh i had a grand national and liked it but it was huge...felt like a barge...but i also drove a monte ss in the high 12s and liked driving it...difference was prolly all suspension, GN felt a lil sloppy compared...
