went to a Porsche dealership yesterday

I had an assignment to do for school where I have to go to three different dealerships/repair shops and ask the owner or manager what qualifications they're looking for in an entry level technician. My g/f and I stopped by Paul Miller Porsche in Parsippany. We talked to the general sales manager, a very nice guy who was very informative.

The best part of this, however, was getting to see several million dollars worth of fine German machinery. They had the new 997 Carreras, a few 911 Turbos, even a GT3! Paul Miller also owns a Bentley/Rolls-Royce dealership on the same lot. There were a few Bentley Continental GT's there, and a used Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale.

The crowning glory, though, was inside the Porsche dealer itself. Sitting on the showroom floor, roped off to prevent anyone from touching it, was a Porsche Carrera GT. My jaw hit the floor when i saw it. I was no more than a foot away from an honest-to-God supercar. This thing is even more badass in real life than it is in pictures. It was gunmetal grey color, with dark tan leather interior. I had to wipe the drool off my chin before i went to speak to the manager. I think I've made up my mind....I want to work for Porsche!

basically, they want someone who's level-headed, intelligent, has good attendance, and can talk to people. The people there seemed very pleasant, especially the general manager I talked to. If I get a chance to work for them, I'll take it in a heartbeat. Some of the techs there make over $100,000 a year.

Jebus...I can just imagine the $12k brake job on that GT...what kinda labor commison do you get off that eh?!

you can make MUCH more than that at a porche dealer. One of my teachers at Wyotech worked for a Ford dealer in Montana and he made over 125K in a year . Imagine what you could make at a high end dealership!

a couple of the techs at the dealership pulled in $150,000 last year, withseveral more making at least $100,000. I'm assuming those guys have been there for a little while, while a new technician would probably make around $80-90K.

but thats for TECHS...guys who are at least ADE certified in some part of mechanics(ie suspension, brakes, engines, diesel)...they wont pay you that if your only there for oil changes and basic crap...you might get like $40-50 if you're lucky enough to land a job there...but hey, who knows...
