i would think MARPAT would mean Marine Patented (patrol?), but i could be way off base. don't think that just because the jarheads came up with something (or had it given to them, more likely) that it belongs only to them. command will make use of a good tool throughout the armed forces as they see fit. if it's good for the marines, then it must be just as good for the SEALs and etc.
