Even with traction problems I'll cut 4 tenths off my times shifting myself and gain 3mph. Since they were old guys please tell me they just kept screwing up the timing of the shifts.

Yea, the old guys were messing up shift points, and both sides were constantly looking into the other lane to see where the opponent was. Old guys kept drifting to the centerline of the track.
One also has to wonder if track prep wasn't equal, as the two cars never switched lanes.
