millville is surprisingly easily swayed by public opinion.

back in the '80s, the cable company decided to dump Mtv and put one of those pay-per-play video shows on instead. i gathered up as many people as i could, told everyone to bring a friend and we filled their meeting room. there were people standing on the outside of the chaired section, and even had people squating in the aisles we had so many people there.

i spoke up, as did three or four of my better-spoken friends (no "ums", "ers" or "like, you know" in our presentation - we tried to appear intelligent ). our main premise was that we were paying the cable company and our opinion in what they carried should be heard. they were up for renewal with their contract with the city and it was a ten year contract. i told the city council that if the cable company can't respond to their customer's wishes, then maybe we should get a different cable company. one week later the contract was ratified and Mtv was back on the air.

so, yeah, showing support for this track at the public hearings is an awesome idea and it might push those on the fence over to the side to let it happen. public safety should be number one and benefit to the community's economy should support that. i am sure the racetrack's interests would appreciate us showing up to support them.
