ok there are 2 reasons why the w6s hit harder then the w7s in this instance:
1. the w6 was in a ported box which is always louder then a sealed box as long as its setup correctly.
2. the w6 was a 13.5 and the w7 was only a 12 and the larger the sub the harder and lower it hits
now you may be asking:
1. why would anyone choose a sealed box over a ported one?
2. why would anyone buy a smaller sub if a larger one will be louder and sound better?
here your answers:
1. a ported box is generally more of a boom boom sound while a sealed box creates tighter bass. people that listen to rap and stuff like that like ported boxes cause thats the kind of bass they want. people that listen to rock and very spirited music would rather have a more "agile" subwoofer for the tighter bass. ported boxes are also harder to make because they need to be tuned to a certain frequency and must me larger then sealed boxes which some people (like us fbody guys) dont have space for. i personally prefer sealed boxes which is because i listen to mostly rock.
2. smaller subs are generally less expensive, and require a smaller box. some subs are even too big for a trunk. imagine trying to fit 18" woofers in the hatch of a fbody, not happening.
my opinions on your decision are as follows. there are much better woofers on the market then what you are buying. the JLs are gonna be a waste of money for you if you feel that the kickers sound plenty good for you. from my understanding the kickers generally require a larger box then most subs which shouldnt be a problem since they are going in your denali. thats not to say kicker isnt a good brand. they are excellent by all means and many people will swear by them.
ok i'm tired and going to bed.
