You can temporarily bypass it by re-routing the hoses to the heater core under the hood. Only problem with that is that you will have no heat at all.

A heater core itself pretty cheap (only paid $22 for the one I put in my grandpa's S-10), but if you pay a shop to replace it you'll prolly get slammed with labor charges.

Anyone know what book time on a third gen heater core is?
