Actually, London and Paris are prolly less than 8 hours. It's 8 to Rome from Newark, and Italy is further east and south. I think my wife said it took her 6 hours to London when she went in college.
If it were me, I'd get them to change venues and go see the artwork in Rome and Venice. Italy's better!
