i think you guys have some information mixed up.
new jersey gives its citizens the same rights to defend themselves as any other state. location has little, if anything, to do with it.
if you, your property, your life, or the life of someone around you is threatened you have the right to defend.
one thing is that you can never give up or lose your right to sue under any circumstance. even signing a waiver of liability does not release your right to sue someone for misfortune or injury. that is how criminals get over for what they do.
it has nothing to do with state laws, just the way that the american legal system works.
