they both looknthe same but i dont know about the cables i know the one i the garage is a rj-45 but the one running to my basement im not sure i thought all ethernet wires were the same basically

Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think those will work. It says the jack it comes from needs to be wired to allow 2 different connections...a router is only meant to connect to one computer. You'd have an issue with both computers on the internet at the same time and the data going to the wrong computer, or not going to any computer.
If running the wires was a bitch (which I'm sure they were), your best bet is to get a wireless router. It will still have the 4 ports for the computers which current run wires, and then wireless for the computers you can't run wires to. I'm not sure there is really any other option if you don't want to run wires again.
