Maybe their cars were just flat out nicer? Im not telling you how to think, but in all honestness rain or not if you want to go for a trophy you better bring cleaning supplies so you can wipe up the car before the judges come around. Maybe the judges just didnt like the way your car looks! It could be one of thousands of other reasons that they didnt choose your car! If you plan on going to more shows and go "trophy hunting" you better get used to this. Unless you have somethine totally different that stands out over the rest, or quite a few bucks into your car this kind of stuff happens. You are better off going to small car shows/cruise nights if you are only going for a trophy.
