The adding water to anti freeze is kind of a new thing -- before cars had 195 thermos and no cats pumps or even vacume lines in some cases -- the mix was done -- well in the summer people would put a 160 thermo in their car -- and in the fall a 180 thermo but if the anti freeze was to strong the cars heater would not work well -- and some would put cardboard piece in front of the radiator to get the temp up but it was the 20% water 80% anti or more that kept the temps of the motor down been their done that kind of thing --- jz
