if it comes down to buying vs rebuilding an engine, go with a GMPP crate motor. for the costs of rebuilding an engine reliably at a machine shop that often only gives you a very short and limited warranty if any at all, you can get a bullet made with all brand new parts and a 3yr/36k mile warranty.
it also invovles way less down time since a lot of the crate motors you will just need to hook up a few things to get running.
the only way "building" a motor is really worth it is if you are going for something all out and need to pick and choose parts yourself.
