I not an expert on diesels, but I bought a 1997 Dodge over the summer with the older 12V Turbo Cummins and its a nice on lots of different levels. Good on fuel, plenty of power, and reasonaby quick for a 3/4 ton Ext. Cab 4x4. I don't have any experience with the Duramax or the newer 6.0L Powerstrokes. Check out www.turbodieselregistry.com for info on all the cummins/dodge stuff and swap info. An older 12V Cummins might be a good candidate because there is no computer controls, it all mechanical injection, which might make for an easier swap. The 24V Cummins, the newer Powerstrokes and the Duramax all are more powerful, but have the added complexity of computer controled injection systems and such. Just a thought.

Good luck and have fun
Chris
