The advantage is less rotating weight on the drivetrain.... and to add 2 cool points to yourself ...

3rd gen aluminum driveshafts are thinner then ls1 aluminum drive shafts. Heres two pics to compare .... third gen 1LE on the right. LS1 driveshaft on the left, and the LS1 shafts aren't made by gm by the way.
