on a 2 dr vehicle in nj the front two windows & windshield cannot be tinted, the other windows can be tinted as dark as you wish, so getting a tint ticket for your tint isn't legal, but, the cop gave you that ticket instead of the inspection ticket, so not sure.

I've heard that about the rear windows for years, so I looked this one up. No where in statute 39: 3-75 does it say that certain windows may or may not be tinted. It says, "No person shall drive any motor vehicle equipped with safety glazing material which causes undue or unsafe distortion of visibility or equipped with unduly fractured, discolored or deteriorated safety glazing material, and the director may revoke the registration of any such vehicle." Aftermarket tint is NOT "approved safety glazing material." Therefore, the law can be interpreted that NO TINT is legal and the police officer can decide what is and isn't safe. It sucks, but it's better than Failure to Inspect, which is an automatic $180-something dollars. If it were me, I'd just pay the ticket. It's not a moving violation and won't affect your insurance. But you're not me, so whatever! Just throwing my two cents in.
