Sunset Orange Metallic was great when it first came out for the 2001-2002 f-bodies, but now every automobile manufacturer has some sort of metallic orange available for their cars and I bet you every single one of the orange-car owners can't help but brag about their orange color. If you've ever been to ls1gto.com, all of the 2006 brazen orange GTO owners can't help but play up their colors by using it as part of their username or customizing their signatures to show it off. Another example is the 2007 C6 where you have not 1 shade of a metallic orange, but 2! And Alex, from EPFBA.org, mentioned the following (as quoted from a blog of a GM car designer):

And orange is offered on about three-quarters of GM’s products...

...have completed development of new GM colors up to 2009, and I can tell you there will be a new orange introduced each year until then. As the orange trend continues, look for the color to evolve from yellow shade oranges to red shade oranges.

If I knew back then that orange would become so popular, then I would have selected Monterey Maroon Metallic, the only color rarer than SOM in 2002 for both f-bodies. Now, the best I can do is play down SOM.
