It's debatable, some say pony, some say muscle, I say muscle cause mustangs came with 428's and 429's and even in 67' they came with 427's, not many but they did. firebirds and camaro's had 455's and 427's on a normal basis.....well besides the fact you had to back door order the 427 for the maro's n stuff, but besides that, they had big blocks in em, so personally, I consider mustangs pony cars till they got 428's and 429's n stuff, then they became muscle cars, and same with camaro's and firebirds, were pony till they got a big block shoved in them.
