i would have used wax & grease remover, but probably because i have a gallon can of it with my tools. it also goes by various other names, like "prep sol", preparation solvent (if you say it fast it sounds like "preps all"), and, of course, every paint system has their own variation, like dupont's chromabase it's known as 3900. no matter what the name on the can, this stuff will remove just about anything. if you have to remove a bumper sticker from a painted surface, i would suggest testing it on an area that's not visible (like under the car or a door jamb, under the trunklid, etc) because it is fairly aggressive - although i've never had it take off clearcoat.
