The 426 was actually quite fast in its day. I remember reading an article in one of the car mags a few years ago and they did an 'old vs. new' shootout where they took like a dozen classic muscle cars and put em up against modern cars. They had like a '69 Camaro vs a 2000 Camaro, '70 Mustang Mach 1 vs 2000 Mustang GT, and a '70 Hemi 'Cuda vs a Viper. They also cross raced some of the cars against each other. In all, all of the classic cars lost, except for the Cuda. (The Cuda lost the first race, but they threw on some DOT slicks and it won the second round if I remember correctly because it kept spinning off the line).
