speedometer offset

ok so obviously changing the size of the tires and rear end gears will throw off the speedo since the speedo takes the speed from the transmission. is there anyway to fix this? besides sending it out to get recalibrated, or leaving the tire size/stock gears. or would it be easier to convert to and electric type speedometer instead of a mechanical one?
