That's why you want to run a wheel/tire that has sufficient sidewall to absorb the impact. I think 17's are the max I would run. For an older car I would go with 16's to get more modern rubber for handling, but still have enough sidewall. That suks you're wheels are bent. At least they didn't split in half and lose air pressure instantly!
