noodles, i find your whole argument about turbos comical. you do realize that there are diesels out there with turbos on them that have gone hundreds of thousands of miles, and the turbos are the same style and brands (sized differently of course) as what gets put into most factory turbo cars.
what brand or style the engine is does not make or break it as a durable piece. a lot fo factors of assembly, driving conditions, and the quality fo the work done go into it.
the quality of work is a huge factor when you talk about modding a small engine to make 400hp. were all the right supporting parts used? was the computer tuned to compensate properly? were drive line components upgraded so they coudl last against the increased power?
i know of modded turbo cars that put up big numbers and have been together for years, i know others that shoudl jsut buy stock in head gasket and bolt companies.
to generalize for or against one brand, style of engine, or model based on a handful of problems you have seen will be inaccurate. every company and platform has it's strengths and weaknesses.
