john recently started running the new "slip tube" style of chassis. it is designed so that the bottom tube of the frame is basically a floating link. looks like that is about where it came apart.
that really works out in john's favor in something like this, loss of mass is a decrease in the energy attached to the driver's portion of the car. so he didn't slide as far or hit things as hard as he would have if the car was intact.
