There's a decent "ridge" in the LS1 TB and you can feel it. Most people that do the basic porting smooth out that ridge and open it up a little in the front section. Some people will also knife edge the throttle blade and grind off the screws that mount it to the shaft. The actual opening isn't really any larger and retains the stock blade, but air can pass through a lot easier and smoother. I noticed an immediate difference in throttle response but haven't had any dyno numbers done. I think it's worth it for difference in driveability even if there is minimal power increase. I recently put a stock TB back on to troubleshoot a pinging issue and the car felt horrible with it and just dogged off the line. It didn't reduce the pinging so I put the ported one back on.
