I thought that 4th gens got a cone-stye Auburn or a Zexel Torsen diff... neither with clutches?

Either way, the additive doesn't hurt. I'd put the car on jackstands in neutral and slowly turn each rear wheel by hand. Listen for clunking. Then pull on each wheel and see if there is a lot of play.
