Chemical stripping can be the cleanest as far as dust goes but you have to make sure you don't get it everywhere. Also it's temperature sensative- it won't strip as well in the colder weather. If you go that route, NAPA stocks a good one. I think it's a Martin Senour product.

You can use a random orbit sander but you will probably need a big compressor to power it.
