while this used to be true, at the speeds these machines are running, i defy anyone to tell the difference (by sight) of a few microseconds, which is all a mismatch would boil down to. i had planned on ordering another 2GB with the machine, to take out the 512X2=1G.

actually, i have been wanting to put together my next machine, but when i saw the available expansion and future upgrades available with this machine, i figured it would support me for now and when i wanted to upgrade, i could - wouldn't be forced to upgrade anything for quite a while, though. if i bought a laptop the only thing i would want is bleeding edge, because i would never open the case. that equals a 2500-3K machine, too rich for my blood.
