I have had my fair share of run in with the law. Sometimes while driving, some times while jsut minding my own, and some times while perusing some manner of youthful stupidity.
I have only had 2 bad experiences in all of my years that I would call negative.
1: Once I had the joy of of sitting on the side of the road after being pulled over, I was going a bit fast for the area, and then sitting there while my car was searched and my ID was checked by no less than 5 cops. It was a joy to get out of class on time and getting to work an hour late without even getting a ticket. They were all very courteous, but honestly, how many times does a guy need to answer "What is your full name?", "Do you have an older brother?", "You know your haircut is a lot different in this picture?" blah blah blah blah. It was like they had a damn script, same questions, using the same words over and over again.
2: This is a story that I don't have space to type in detail. Basically I got pulled over, after I had parked, for "pulling away from a light awefully hard" in a dead stock 91 RS w/LO3. The cop then made the mortal error of asking me how much my car "cost mommy" when it was my name on the registration and insurance. The cop was a tool, I scolded him in public after he asked the question and told me he could make up whatever he wanted and put it on a ticket. After my stop at 7-11, where I was parked when I got "pulled over", I went straight to the police station with his name and badge number and filed an official complaint.
Every other time I can think of either the cop was super cool or I got exactly what I deserved for whatever I was doing.
I would say that the coolest cop I have had major interaction with was when my Alero got totaled. Cop knew I got rocked pretty good in the accident, never let me stop talking, never let me walk around, asked if I was ok about a million times, and made sure the ambulance was called and I got to the hospital ok.
Yes, I know there are cops out there who are a-holes and just trying to make up for whatver locker they got stuffed in as a kid, but I believe that 99% of them get into the job for the right reasons and try their best every day. It has to be tough to try to protect a society that is so openly over run by crooks and stupidity and not lose faith.
Thank you and God bless to those who protect and serve.
