I guess you haven't heard the latest from Testament,Exodus,Overkill,Warbringer or Municipal Waste. When bands like Trivium and Killswitch Engage do covers of your songs that sound more like your ***** than you've sounded like in 15 years, that just proves my point. Megadeth didn't sell out. Neither did Judas Priest,Iron Maiden, Slayer,Exodus,Testament,Overkill,Anthrax,Danzig,Ve nom,Dimmu Borgir,Immortal,Type O Negative,Ozzy, Dio,Queensryche,Motorhead,Kreator,Sodom, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, or Sepultura.

I was merely using RHCP as an example.

A producer has a huge influence on the band's writing material. In a little segment I watched (dunno if it was from the Some Kind of Monster DVD or not), but Lars and Kirk were arguing because Kirk wanted to include solos and Lars sided with Bob Rock saying that "solo's are a thing of the past". That's the kind of influence a producer can have. So technically its not all Metallica's fault, they just failed to can Bob Rock earlier than they should have.

This new album is gonna get as close to old material as they can get. Its not gonna be the next MOP or RTL, but it sure as hell better than their mid 90's - St Anger material. And I'd say a good portion of Old Metallica fans that refuse to like their new material are still swinging by Dave Mustaine's ballbag, and I'll stand on that statement 100% .
