Exactly. Thats precisely what happened in the '80's. George Steinbrenner was a micro manager and had to have his hands in everything. He also liked to insult the players and coaches in the media which really pissed everyone off. Then he goes and gets into fights with the manager at the time, Billy Martin, and the players notice all this, and they get pissed off and discouraged. Then they play like crap and the fans take notice and they get pissed off. If there isnt stability at the top, the crap rolls down hill.
I see the race between the Yanks and Red Sox that really heated up around '02 like the cold war. You have two sides that are in direct competition with one another, and in the end, only one can win. The Yanks hired Cashman to be their General. And the Sox hired that young guy (I forget his name). It was an arms race to get the best players. Well, the Sox won in the end. Cashaman has grenaded the Yankees. He overpays dinosaur players that are in the end of their career, has no idea what so ever on how to scout pitchers, trades great players away for injury prone ones, and when the crap hit the fan, it was blame Torre time and they insulted the crap out of him after last season and we know what happened after that. Meanwhile, the Sox are making amazing trades and deals, like getting Beckett, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, etc. The problem with the Yanks isnt the players, its the suit wearing decision makers that suck at making decisions.
