what kind of rods were they? your upper part looks awfully dry in there, did you clean that or has it been sitting a long time? i would just rip the manifold off and see whats up. I am betting you broke the pushrod, if you sunk a lifter the rod should still be somewhat visible as enough of that should be coming through that head. best thing i can suggest for the future is chrome moly pushrods with thick walls and a 5/16 or 3/8 size
