What you will want to watch is that each valve opens and closes smoothly, no sticking or anything. I really doubt there is any need to send the heads out for work if they are fresh from GMPP. Did you buy them directly from GM? If you bought them new, you shoudl shoot GMPP an email and see what they say about the stud failing and related pushrod failure.
You can cycle the motor by hand using a longish break bar or ratchet with a cheater bar on the bolt in the center of the balancer.
