I would only do something like that for a cruiser. If you're looking for performance you are better off spending a little more, getting the right parts and knowing what you got. With a remanf. you really don't know what you're getting; engine could have been rebuilt a few times leaving you with weak parts and such. Not saying Jasper engines, but we've broken a few of those remain SBC over the years. Slapped a big cam in em and took them out, spun it up and they didn't last too long, some we pulled apart had cranks turned allot, rods that were resized couple times. There can be a big difference between cookie cuter rebuilds and having someone rebuild an engine just for you.

Antz, you’re first post stated "rebuild back to stock” do you mean to stock specs (350 CI), or just meaning stock equivalent parts? If you're planning on a mild heads/cam package too, then forget the rebuild kit, you will be better off selecting the parts individually, such as an upgraded oil pump, maybe timing change, Felpro (.039) or impala head gaskets. And as JS referred, spending a few dollars on upgrading bolts is really a good idea. I've used ARP bolts in all the motors I've built for years. As far as I'm concerned it’s always money well spent. Other then the timing chain these upgrades will cost near the price of what would be in the kit but will be upgrades in helping the engine live and adding a few more HP.
