A single full tail pipe 3.5 with a proper y-pipe moves as much air as a short dual 2.5 system.
Packaging on 3rd and 4th gens is just tough with true duals. You lose a ton of ground clearance especially if you are trying to squeeze tail pipes out of the set up.
