It can happen. I've been using the K&N filters for years and as long as you don't over oil it you shouldn't have a problem. But on my 2000SS, the previous owner may have over oiled it because I could see the discoloration on the MAF wires so I cleaned it up with the spray just in case. I haven't had any problems.
