In some professions, I here recruiters are good. However, I have found the engineering profession, they are garbage. They talk up a storm and leave you hanging. I have found all of my jobs doing my own leg work. Firms actually prefer you to go direct through them as it saves them a good bit of money. It also shows that you took an initiative to find a job and/or information about that company. Many times I figure out about the company the recruiter is talking about and ask who it is or simply state the company name. I had one recruiter interview 1.5 hrs away all to here I would have to relocated b/c there was nothing in my area. I was pissed although I kept my cool. I think I score a job the following week on my own in my area.
