The GM trans stuff is this:
# of forward gears engine "direction" GVWR rating - electronic/heavy duty
So a TH400 is a 3L80.
And a 700-R4 is a 4L60.
A 4L60-E has 4 forward gears, longitudinally mounted, is rated for a GVWR of 6000 and is electronically controlled.
A 4T65-HD is a 4 speed auto, transverse mounted, GVWR of 6000, and is "heavy duty"
In F-Bodies, you got this:
First gen- Powerglide, "Torque-Drive", TH350, TH400
Second gen- Powerglide, TH350, TH400
Third gen- TH200/TH350(?- don't know or care), 200-4R and 700-R4
Fourth gen- 4L60 in 93, 4L60-E from then on
