wheel adapters
Need an answer soon so I can have the car ready for Sunday.
I orderd a set of adapters for the 87 to fit its new wheels. I looked on TGO, read a bit around the internet, etc etc but had problems finding out exactly what size I should run up front.
I have C4 HD brake conversion done to the front, and it uses a custom made hub so that you can slide the large Corvette rotor on like you would on a modern car (4th gen) instead of having a hub/rotor combo.
Now, I was questioning if all this will move the hub outwards, meaning that the conventional 2 inch adapters used for third gens to put 4th gen wheels on would put the wheels too far out.
But when I put the IROC's on (front offset) they sat perfectly with the edge of the fender, meaning that it sits like factory, maybe a little farther out.
Now I was advised to purchase 1.5 thick adapters for the front because the brake upgrade can move the wheel outwards upto a .5 inch.
I got them yesterday, and the rears seem to fit ok, the fronts dont. I had picked up hub-centric adapters, but the center area is not cut deep enough to accept the larger aftermarket hub.
So now, I either have to buy a set of new hubs, return the ones I bought for the front, or take the ones I bought to a machine shop and have the rest of the center cut out. Problem I dont know any shop in the area that can do that. Any ideas?
