If this was my car here is what I would do:

If you get get a hold of a coolant pressure checker: Pressurize the system for 15-20 minutes, then pull the spark plugs an turn the engine over an see if any coolant sprays out? That is one way of checking before you pull the heads off, and might tell you what side?

If you've got oil/coolant in the pan, but not pushing white smoke out the exhaust it could be more then a head gaskets. Intake cracked, could even be the block? Do you know if the block was previously decked? That can sometimes cause the bores to leak?

How full/overfull was the pan? Was it high up on the dip stick? If you had 1+ quart of water in the oil then you might want to tear the entire engine down and get it flushed and the bearings replaced.
