The LS engines seems to have an issue with the clutch slave cylinder sticking, with the pedal not returning all the way up. The advice on the net is to change the fluid often, to make sure that it's clean and doesn't contain the burned friction material.

I've had a similar issue with my G8 this weekend: I went to a drag strip to try it out and on the 4th pass the pedal didn't release, stuck half way up when shifting to 2nd. I didn't realize that and fried the clutch pretty good. The pedal then came up after I lifted the gas, then same when shifting to 3rd, and then I gave up and just coasted. I've let it cool down for a while, with open hood, and it seemed to work fine afterwards. But the fluid became real dark, and now there is a fair amount of free pedal travel at the bottom.

So try to fully lift the gas pedal when shifting, shift, wait a little, only then get back on the gas.
