In terms of efficiency the S60's pinion location is better than the 9 inch which makes it more efficient and adds to its durability..
The ring gear is over 9.5" in diameter which makes it stronger than the 9" Ford by design.
The weight difference is only about 25 lbs in comparison.
The rear is a well made unit, every one we have installed has been whisper quiet, and it uses the through bolt design for the torque arm where the Moser 12 housing uses four shorter bolts to hold the torque arm which have the tendancy to work loose and cause major damage.
Normally we reccomend the S60 for anything street or strip. The only time I try to steer people towards the 12 bolt is when they are serious about road racing or where the additional unsprung weight would be an issue and the car is not being launched as hard on a sticky tire.

This is not scientific or a promise that the 60 is "bulletproof" because nothing is, but I have personally fragmented many 10 bolts, 9"s and even hurt a few 12 bolts but the S60 is the only rear I have yet to break personally or even seen one of my customers damage.
