I would go with a c5 personally.
But if you go into another fbody yeah you can upgrade the lt1 but I personally think working on an ls1 is alot easier, you loose the mpg upgrading an lt1 to get you to the point of the ls1, upgrade an ls1 and still get bitchin mpg, you can go into a manual car if you wanted to as well.
It does get boring keeping the same car for a long time IMO, that why I am always modifying my car to change it up enough to keep it.
But I'm biased. When i bought my camaro I wouldn't even consider a 98 or older
