Maybe OP has some romanticized way of thinking about being a "grunt"/infantry man?
You wanna do something fun OP? Sign up for 18x contract. Chances are you won't make it, as 90%+ people don't. If you do, you will probably try out some of the coolest **** you've ever seen and done in your life. If you fail, hey you have nothing to lose - 5 years in the infantry is your "punishment".
Should be a win-win for you.
