ok, let's not turn this into a horror show. well, ok, if you insist.
the only time i ever got hurt riding was when i wasn't wearing protective gear. i got rashed up pretty good. not nearly as bad as a guy i knew in texas that lost his chest. yep, he was riding on the street without leather and did a body slide on his chest. sheered it off right down to the bone.
makes you think twice about those kids you see wearing t-shirts and shorts, riding down the road at 100+, laying rubber, pulling wheelies...
riding used to be about freedom. now it's more about... well, i dunno what it's about.
a survery done in england a little while ago said that 75% of the accidents involving two wheels also involved an inattentive driver in a car. they say you have to be a defensive driver when behind the wheel. that goes double when you're behind the handlebars.
if i were to pick a bike to ride, i would pick one that was as safe as possible. it would be covered with halogen flashers and be international-orange. have fun choosing a bike.
