I don't think you're crazy. I'm sure the purpose of this car is bi-fold, a limited edition car and an answer to the Boss LS. Just speculating, but I would imagine the reason they went with the LS7 over the LS3 had more to do with the those two reasons than price gouging--A 427ci 7.0L sounds better to the ear (and on paper) than a 402ci 6.2L.
